Lots of Windows tweaking and customization functionality is put at your disposal by the free and open source application 7plus. Automatically shut down the PC, access applications by pressing a hotkey, double click on the desktop to run Explorer, open a folder in a new window by middle clicking it, upload files to a FTP server – you gain access to all these features and more by getting 7plus.

And speaking about getting 7plus, it must be said that you won’t have to complete an installation process to get started with the application. No, what you will have to do is download a 1.2Mb archive, extract its contents, and then run the 7plus executable.

While 7plus is running, you will notice an icon in the system tray. Double click that icon and you will be presented with the Settings menu. Left click the icon and you will be presented with a context menu that lists the following: Reload this Script, Suspend Hotkeys, Exit, Start Timer, and Settings.

You can customize and specify what you want 7plus to do from this Settings menu. There are lots and lots of functions to go through. You can tweak actions, create new features, and combine different triggers, conditions, and actions. Here are some examples: take a screenshot and automatically upload it to a FTP server, open an application by pressing a hotkey, automatically shut down the PC when the timer runs down, create a new folder by double clicking on the desktop, open a file in a new window by middle clicking it, and more.

As mentioned above, 7plus is free and open source. This means you have all the time in the world to play around with this highly configurable and incredibly useful tool.

Pros

7plus does not have to be installed: just download an archive, extract the contents, and run the 7plus executable. There are lots and lots of options to go through in the Settings menu. 7plus is free and open source.

Cons

None that I could think of.
